India wins three medals at U23 World Wrestling Championships

India secured three medals at the Under-23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas. Amruta Pujari earned a silver medal in the women’s 72kg category after losing the final to Ukraine’s Iryna Zablotska. Earlier in the tournament, Komal secured a bronze medal in the women’s 59kg division by defeating Kazakhstan’s Viktoriia Khusainova. Vishvajit More also made history by claiming India’s first-ever silver medal in the Greco-Roman 55kg event at this level.

In the men’s freestyle categories, Jaskaran and Chandermohan competed for bronze medals following their respective semifinal losses. Jaskaran, who had previously defeated U20 World Champion Bowen Bassett, lost 11-0 to Japan’s Kaiji Ogino, while Chandermohan narrowly lost 3-4 to Iran’s Mahdi Mohammad Yousefihajivar.

Other Indian athletes, including Sweety and Vaishnavi Patil, participated in repechage bouts but were unable to secure additional podium finishes. The Indian contingent faced challenges earlier in the event, as several wrestlers were unable to compete in specific weight categories due to visa denials.
