India's L Murugan urges creators to use AI for empowerment
At the YouTube Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, L Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, advocated for the integration of artificial intelligence as a tool to empower creators rather than replace them.
Murugan emphasized that while technology evolves rapidly, constitutional values remain constant. He highlighted India's digital transformation, noting the importance of moving from content consumption to intellectual property creation.
The YouTube Impact Report released at the summit revealed that YouTube’s creative ecosystem contributed over Rs 18,000 crore to India’s GDP in 2025. The platform also supported more than 9.6 lakh full-time-equivalent jobs across the nation. Additionally, the report noted that over 18,000 Indian YouTube channels have reached one million subscribers, and more than 15 per cent of watch time for Indian-produced content is generated by international audiences.
