India’s live events sector grows 44% in one year

India’s live events sector has experienced 44% growth over the past year, supporting more than one crore livelihoods through approximately 34,000 events held nationwide. During the 5th meeting of the Live Events Development Cell (LEDC), Information and Broadcasting Secretary Chanchal Kumar announced a government target to double the sector by 2030, which could potentially generate between 15 and 20 million direct and ancillary jobs.

To support this growth, the government is implementing several reforms, including the use of the Single Window Clearances Portal on the India Cine Hub (ICH) platform. States and Union Territories are being urged to integrate their local licensing systems with the ICH portal to ensure a time-bound, end-to-end licensing lifecycle. Additionally, the number of States and UTs with designated Nodal Officers has increased from 16 to 29.

Other initiatives discussed include the adoption of a Model Executive Order for streamlining permissions, the potential for a single national music licence, and the development of skilling curricula through partnerships involving the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).
