India's Lok Sabha disrupted over Ayodhya temple offering theft

On the 12th day of the monsoon session, the Lok Sabha was repeatedly adjourned after opposition members protested an alleged theft of offerings (chadhava) from the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The disruption prevented both the question hour and zero hour from taking place, and the house was suspended for most of the day.

During the brief periods when business was allowed, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a tax‑related bill, while the government also moved the Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026 and the Bankers' Book Evidence Bill, 2026. In the Rajya Sabha, a bill on birth and death registration was passed amid similar protests, and a heated exchange occurred between opposition leader Mallikarjun Khadge and parliamentary affairs minister Kiran Rizigu.

Opposition parties, including the Congress and Samajwadi Party, accused the government of a cover‑up and demanded a response from the Prime Minister, calling for investigations by the CBI and ED. The session, which began on 20 July, has now seen eleven consecutive days of halted proceedings due to these protests.
