India's Lok Sabha Moves Privilege Motion Against Rahul Gandhi
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Anurag Thakur lodged a breach‑of‑privilege notice in the Lok Sabha alleging that opposition leader Rahul Gandhi used the terms “idiots” and “andh‑bhakts” during a debate on the Anti‑Paper Leak Bill. The notice claims the remarks violated multiple provisions of Rule 352, constituting contempt of the House and breaching parliamentary decorum. Rahul Gandhi’s comments were said to target political opponents and supporters of the government, and were described as unrelated to the bill under discussion.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticised the BJP’s action, accusing the ruling party of branding all criticism as unparliamentary and calling for a new political “dictionary”. The dispute adds to ongoing tensions between the BJP and opposition parties in Parliament.
