Abhijeet Dipke faces health scare, financial probe and criticism over India protests
Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), fell ill on 1 August 2026 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Doctors reported low blood pressure (100/60 mm Hg), vomiting and loose motions and advised him to rest. Earlier, Dipke had been diagnosed with typhoid during the Jantar Mantar protests.
Surat‑based RTI activist Amit Tiwari lodged formal complaints with the Election Commission of India, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and the Maharashtra government. He seeks an inquiry into the finances of Dipke’s father, Bhagwanrao Dipke, a former junior engineer at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation earning roughly Rs 60‑65 000 a month, questioning how that salary funded Abhijeet’s U.S. education. Tiwari also asked authorities to examine CJP’s legal status, alleging the party is unregistered under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and to levy 18 % GST on a Rs 1 crore fund pledged by Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal for a legal‑defence fund.
CJP organised a “Chalo Sansad” march on 20 July 2026 that reached the Parliament precinct. Police used batons, tear‑gas and lathicharge; Dipke and supporters allege that women protesters, including minors, were beaten and had their clothing torn. Dipke publicly urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise for the alleged police excesses. The protests, driven by youth and students, later forced Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign on 25 July 2026, marking a rare concession by the ruling BJP government.
