India's LPG customers face misinformation over June 30 cutoff as PNG push clarified
Social media circulated a claim that all LPG connections in India would be shut down after 30 June 2026. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has not announced a blanket termination of LPG service. The government’s policy aims to promote piped natural gas (PNG) where the infrastructure exists and enforces a “no dual‑connection” rule, meaning a household cannot simultaneously have LPG and PNG.
The PNG transition, announced in March 2026, gives households in PNG‑served areas about 90 days to switch, but LPG supply continues in regions without PNG availability. Ministry data shows more than 10 lakh new PNG connections have been activated since March, with over 9 lakh households already registered for PNG and around 1 lakh families having switched from LPG. LPG cylinder prices on 25 June 2026 remained unchanged across major Indian cities.
The rumor has caused consumer anxiety, but officials stress that LPG will not be universally discontinued; only the dual‑connection option is being phased out where PNG is offered.
