India's LPG Prices Hold Steady as Government Plans to Double U.S. Imports

Domestic LPG cylinder prices across major Indian cities remained unchanged in early July 2026, while the price of 19‑kg commercial cylinders was reduced by ₹183.50 on July 1. The unchanged domestic rates apply to the 14.2‑kg cylinders, with rates ranging from ₹939.50 in Noida to ₹968 in Kolkata.

India's LPG consumption fell 8 % year‑on‑year in the first half of 2026, largely due to supply disruptions caused by the West Asia conflict and restrictions on imports through the Strait of Hormuz. The United States became India’s largest LPG supplier between March and June 2026. In response, Indian officials are considering doubling contracted LPG imports from the United States and evaluating Algeria as an additional source to reduce reliance on Gulf suppliers and strengthen energy security. The move aligns with a government plan to build a 30‑day strategic LPG reserve.

The commercial price cut followed the restoration of LPG supplies to hotels, restaurants and other businesses after earlier supply concerns. Falling crude‑oil prices in global markets may also help lower LPG costs in the future.
