India's major cities report seasonal surge in flu, COVID‑19 and asthma cases

Hospitals in Hyderabad and Bengaluru are experiencing the typical monsoon‑season rise in respiratory illnesses. In Hyderabad, outpatient departments are seeing 300‑400 patients daily with around 70 admissions for viral fever, asthma and occasional dengue and malaria cases. Doctors attribute the asthma increase to strong winds and seasonal allergies.

In Bengaluru, influenza has become the dominant infection, with 10‑15 new cases each day, mainly H1N1 and H3N2 strains, while the JN.1 COVID‑19 variant continues to cause mild, largely endemic cases. Elderly and those with chronic conditions remain at higher risk of complications, and some severe cases require intensive care. Health officials advise vaccination, mask use, hand hygiene and staying home when ill.

Both cities report that the surge aligns with higher humidity, indoor crowding during rains and school reopenings. Standard preventive measures are being promoted to limit spread and protect vulnerable populations.
