India’s mining sector to undergo digital and AI transformation

At a FICCI conference in Mumbai, industry experts and government officials discussed how artificial intelligence, automation, and digital technology are transforming India’s mining and metals sector.

Speakers noted that adopting these technologies can enhance transparency, safety, sustainability, and competitiveness. Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra highlighted that digitalization enables better monitoring and responsible resource management, describing data as a bridge of trust between industry and society.

Dinesh Mahur, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, emphasized the strategic importance of critical minerals and advanced materials for sectors including electronics, energy, aerospace, and defense. Other experts suggested that the future of the sector relies on predictive maintenance, drones, and autonomous equipment to solve real-world problems and achieve measurable outcomes.
