India's Monsoon Break Delays Rain, Temperatures Rise in Central Regions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a temporary pause in the southwest monsoon will keep most of Nagpur and the Vidarbha region dry until July 17, with only isolated light showers possible. The lack of rain is expected to raise daytime temperatures by 2 °C to 4 °C, reaching 32 °C‑34 °C, before the monsoon resumes around July 18.

Across western and central India, the IMD forecasts scattered rain and thunderstorms in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and parts of north‑central Maharashtra, while districts such as Pune, Solapur, and much of Vidarbha remain dry. Heavy rain continues in Uttarakhand, triggering landslides that have blocked over 100 roads, including two national highways.

Overall, the monsoon remains weak over most of the country, with significant rainfall confined to the northeast, West Bengal and parts of the Himalayas.
