India's Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project Advances Toward 2027 Launch
India’s first high‑speed rail corridor, linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is reporting rapid progress in civil works, bridge construction and tunnel excavation. The 508‑km line runs through Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, featuring 12 stations designed for multimodal integration.
The project adopts Japanese Shinkansen technology, with a design speed of 350 km/h and an operational speed of 320 km/h. Once operational, travel time between the two cities will be reduced to about 1 hour 58 minutes, compared with 8–9 hours by road and 4–5 hours by air. The first passenger service is slated for August 2027, aiming to boost commercial efficiency and passenger convenience across the region.
