India's Nalco alumina exports slump amid West Asia crisis
State‑run National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) said that geopolitical tensions in West Asia disrupted roughly 40‑50 % of its alumina shipments to the region. The reduced demand from West Asian smelters, many operating at lower capacity, forced a shift in export destinations toward markets such as Indonesia and triggered a fall in global spot alumina prices to about USD 305‑310 per tonne.
Nalco reported a 16.6 % decline in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended 31 March 2026, with earnings falling to Rs 1,722.44 crore from Rs 2,067.23 crore a year earlier. Revenue also slipped, and the company highlighted the broader impact of the West Asia conflict on the aluminium value chain, with lower alumina prices in some regions and higher refined aluminium prices due to shipping disruptions and production cuts.
