India's National Testing Agency crisis prompts minister resignation

A large-scale protest erupted over failures in the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts exams for about eight million college applicants. Candidates and families complained of paper leaks, score‑tabulation errors and a series of student suicides linked to the agency's faulty processes. The movement, lasting 36 days and featuring a three‑week hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, was led by Gen‑Z activists and highlighted by Indian student Abhijeet Dipke, who returned from Boston University with the Indian Constitution.

In response, the government accepted the resignation of the Union education minister, announced a high‑powered reform committee chaired by tech entrepreneur Nandan Nilekani, and pledged compensation to the families of students who died. Minor protest violations were largely ignored, signaling a shift toward addressing systemic flaws in India's higher‑education testing system.
