India's NDSA Orders Telangana to Draft Rehabilitation Plans for KLIS Barrages

The National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) technical oversight committee met with Telangana irrigation officials in New Delhi and directed the state to prepare rehabilitation designs for the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). The meeting focused on reviewing test results, planning repair designs and scheduling a follow‑up session within a month to examine the detailed drawings.

Telangana officials highlighted concerns that storing water in the three barrages could endanger residents and potentially submerge Bhadrachalam town. The state agreed to follow NDSA’s recommendations and submit the rehabilitation designs at the next meeting. Once approved, the repair work is slated for completion by June 2027.
