India's NHAI launches digital local toll pass via RajmargYatra app

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a digital Local Toll Pass for residents who live within 20 km of a toll plaza. The pass can be created instantly on the RajmargYatra mobile app, which is linked to the government’s DigiLocker and VAHAN portals to automatically verify the applicant’s address, vehicle registration number and FASTag status. Once approved, the pass allows unlimited travel through the selected toll plaza for a full month, eliminating the need to stand in queues or submit physical documents.

The service was first piloted at the Mundka‑Bakkarwala toll plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road‑2 and will be rolled out in phases to other toll plazas across the national highway network. NHAI says the initiative will save time and reduce costs for millions of daily commuters and local vehicle owners. The app also includes a “MARG Mitra” help centre for toll‑related queries such as FASTag recharge, refunds and other pass options.
