India's NITI Aayog charts roadmap to become global leader in affordable caregiving
A new NITI Aayog report highlights the growing demand for trained caregivers in India and outlines a strategy to position the country as a global hub for affordable, skilled caregiving services. Vice‑Chairperson Ashok Kumar Lahiri said the plan could unlock significant economic value, create jobs, and strengthen social security for caregivers while enhancing India's cultural soft power.
The report proposes a National Policy on Caregiving, the creation of a National Caregiver Council, and a set of strategic pillars covering policy reform, professional recognition, workforce development, global cooperation, and community‑based care. Member Dr R Balasubramaniam emphasized that a robust caregiving ecosystem would promote social inclusion, empower communities, and contribute to the vision of a developed India by 2047.
