India's North Monsoon Slows as Uttarakhand Braces for Light Rain and Storms

The southwest monsoon has entered most parts of India, but widespread rainfall has been limited. Meteorologists note that a weak La Niña, lack of a strong low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, and other atmospheric factors are reducing moisture inflow, keeping many regions dry.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that in the next two to three days the monsoon will advance into parts of Uttarakhand. Hill districts such as Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital, Chamoli and Udham Singh Nagar may see light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds of 30‑40 km/h. Similar brief showers are possible in Haridwar and other foothill areas, while Dehradun is expected to remain partly clear. Temperatures in Dehradun are forecast at a maximum of about 37 °C and a minimum of 26 °C.

In Delhi and the National Capital Region, skies are becoming cloudier and a modest relief from the recent heat is expected as the monsoon clouds move in, although substantial rain is still uncertain.
