India's opposition parties condemn delayed paper‑leak bill amid student protests

Samajwadi Party spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand said the government’s delay in introducing a paper‑leak prevention bill forced students onto the streets, arguing that an earlier bill could have averted the large‑scale protests. He also criticised the BJP’s handling of the issue, the proposed NTA reforms and statements by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, calling the party’s stance on women’s reservation contradictory.

Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Manoj Kumar Jha echoed the criticism, arguing that loopholes in existing paper‑leak laws are not to blame; rather, officials within the system enable the violations. He cited examples of horse‑trading in legislatures as evidence of systemic corruption that hampers genuine reform.
