India’s packaged food industry poised for growth through 2026

India’s packaged food industry is experiencing significant growth driven by shifting consumer lifestyles, urbanization, and rising incomes. According to an assessment by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, the organized consumer food sector grew 14% between fiscal 2018 and 2024, with an additional 13% growth in fiscal 2025. The industry is projected to see further growth of 13–15% in fiscal 2026, particularly in the snacks, ready-to-eat, and ready-to-cook segments.

This expansion is fueled by a demand for convenience as busy work schedules and smaller households change traditional eating habits. In response to these trends, food tech startup High Time Foods has launched a new range of plant-based protein snacks in India. The company’s lineup includes frozen samosas, kebabs, tikkis, and momos designed to provide up to 40g of protein per pack. By integrating protein into familiar traditional foods, the company aims to cater to both vegetarians and flexitarians looking for nutritious, convenient options.
