India's Parliament deadlock stalls women's reservation and delimitation bills
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met with Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in an effort to secure Congress backing for the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill and the Delimitation Bill. Gandhi rejected the outreach, insisting that discussion of the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft and the Home Minister’s comments on police action during the July 20 student protests must precede any legislative business.
Meanwhile, the government announced that neither the Women’s Reservation Bill nor the Delimitation proposals will be placed on the agenda of the current Monsoon Session (July 20 – August 13). Only five bills have been passed so far, reflecting the ongoing political stalemate and regional concerns over constituency re‑allocation and women’s representation in legislatures.
