India's Parliament monsoon session halted amid protests as Bihar assembly prepares seven bills

On the second day of the national monsoon session, the Lok Sabha was suspended within minutes of its start due to disruptive protests, prompting Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the house until noon. The Rajya Sabha also paused proceedings until 12 p.m., while members raised issues such as a lathi charge on student protesters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the recent NEET exam paper leak, condemning it as a serious offence and stating that responsible individuals had been held accountable and the exam re‑conducted where necessary.

In the state of Bihar, the Vidhan Sabha began its second day of the monsoon session at 11 a.m., with plans to introduce seven bills covering university reforms, medical regulations, land records, tax amendments, urban development, gambling prohibition and trade facilitation. Opposition leaders, including CM Samrat Chaudhary and leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav, were expected to challenge the government on various issues, signalling a similarly contentious atmosphere at the state level.
