India's Centre Announces All‑Party Meeting Ahead of Monsoon Parliament Session

The Union government has scheduled an all‑party meeting for 19 July, a day before the Monsoon Session of Parliament opens on 20 July and runs until 13 August. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and will brief leaders on the government's legislative agenda. Key proposals expected to be tabled include the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, which seeks to disqualify the Prime Minister, chief ministers and other ministers if they remain in judicial custody for 30 consecutive days in serious criminal cases. The Joint Parliamentary Committee is slated to adopt its report on the amendment on 17 July. Opposition parties are preparing to press the government on several issues, notably the alleged NEET‑UG paper leak, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s comments on casualties during Operation Sindoor, and broader governance concerns. The session also comes amid notable party realignments, with several legislators shifting affiliations ahead of the debates. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the session dates, and the government has signalled that the period will feature “meaningful debate, discussion and decisions on matters of national importance.”
