India's Parliament Stalled by Opposition Protests, Government Says

During the monsoon session of the Indian Parliament, opposition MPs have repeatedly staged protests at the Makar Dwar entrance, delaying proceedings for 10 to 20 minutes each time. BJP legislators accused the opposition of a "deliberate conspiracy" to prevent the house from functioning, saying the government is ready to debate any issue.

BJP MP Nareish Bansal warned that democracy requires both the ruling party and the opposition to keep the parliament running, while Praveen Khandelwal called the protests a pre‑planned scheme by the Congress and other opposition parties. BJP members also criticised the absence of Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the opposition uses the issue to divert attention. RLD MP Chandan Chauhan, speaking to IANS, described the tactics as "Makar Dwar politics" and urged that the time spent protesting be used for substantive debate on bills such as the FCRA amendment.
