India per capita carbon emissions below global average, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India’s per capita carbon emissions are less than half of the global average, arguing that the responsibility for climate change is often unfairly placed on developing nations. Speaking at the inauguration of the international conference ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’ in New Delhi, Modi noted that developed countries emit approximately six times more carbon per person than India.

The two-day event, organized by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), includes judicial representatives and environmental experts from 17 countries. During the conference, the Prime Minister also launched the NGT Mobile App to improve access to tribunal services.

Modi highlighted India’s progress in renewable energy, noting that the country is the only G20 member to fulfill its Paris Agreement (COP21) commitments ahead of schedule. He emphasized that India is focusing on non-fossil fuels, solar energy, and wind power, asserting that the nation’s development is both rapid and sustainable.
