India's Personal Loan Apps Adopt DPDP Act‑Driven Data Privacy Measures
The rapid expansion of India's digital finance sector has made instant personal loan applications commonplace, allowing consumers to obtain unsecured credit within minutes via mobile platforms. Apps such as Kissht, Hero Digital Lending and others streamline the borrowing process through online KYC, OTP verification and real‑time loan tracking.
Following the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, regulated loan applications are now required to embed strict privacy safeguards. Compliance measures include limiting data collection to what is essential for identity verification, prohibiting access to users' contacts or photo galleries, providing granular consent controls, and employing end‑to‑end encryption for all financial transactions. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) enforces these standards for licensed lenders, distinguishing them from unregulated “shadow” lenders that previously employed intrusive data practices.
