India's petrol and diesel prices dip in several cities on Aug 2 2026

On 2 August 2026 India’s oil marketing companies released new retail rates for petrol and diesel. Prices fell in a number of northern and eastern cities: Bhopal, Patna, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, Lucknow and others saw reductions of 57‑99 paise per litre. In contrast, Noida recorded a modest increase of 23 paise for petrol. Major metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai largely held steady.

The adjustments follow a recent easing in global crude‑oil markets after a brief surge linked to Middle‑East tensions that temporarily closed the Strait of Hormuz. Since mid‑May, cumulative hikes of about ₹7.5 per litre have been applied after the government delayed passing on higher input costs. The daily price revisions are announced at 6 a.m. by state‑run retailers – Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum – and are reflected in the latest city‑wise tables.

The latest changes are expected to provide short‑term relief to commuters, though analysts note that further fluctuations remain possible as international oil prices respond to geopolitical developments.
