India's PMKVY certifies 11.1 million trainees, 2.44 million placed
The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship reported that 1.11 crore (11.1 million) candidates have been certified under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) from versions 1.0 to 3.0. Of these, 24.38 lakh (2.44 million) were placed through the scheme’s short‑term training component.
Under the newer PMKVY 4.0 phase, the program shifts focus to future‑skill training—artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, cloud computing, IoT, data analytics, cybersecurity and green technologies—and no longer monitors placement outcomes. The Directorate General of Training has developed 170 NSQF‑compliant courses, including 32 new‑age courses, delivered via Industrial Training Institutes and National Skill Training Institutes across the country. Ongoing skill‑gap studies guide adjustments to align training with industry demand.
