India's Pralhad Joshi Takes Charge as Union Education Minister

On July 27, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and reassigned the Education Ministry to Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, who already handles Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy. Joshi, a five‑term BJP MP from Karnataka, said the portfolio was a new area for him and that he would begin by reviewing ongoing programmes and meeting senior officials. He expressed humility and a sense of duty, noting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidence in his appointment. The reshuffle follows a period of nationwide student protests, and Joshi chaired an early review meeting to assess scheme implementation. He also indicated he would familiarize himself with the department’s work before making policy decisions.
