PM Narendra Modi's 136th Mann Ki Baat Highlights Defence, Science, Sports, and Environment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 136th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on 26 July 2026. The broadcast, which reaches an estimated 100 crore listeners, covered a wide range of achievements.

Modi praised the bravery of Indian soldiers on Kargil Vijay Diwas and highlighted recent defence milestones: the induction of the indigenous warship INS Mahendragiri, successful tests of the Pinaka long‑range guided rocket and Kusha missile, a BrahMos‑Astra deal with Indonesia, and the private‑sector launch of the Vikram‑1 rocket.

He also celebrated Indian sports successes, giving special commendation to badminton star PV Sindhu, the women's cricket team’s historic Test win at Lord’s, and India’s participation in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In science, Modi lauded Dr Ronaldo Laishram of Manipur for co‑discovering a massive young‑galaxy cluster named the “Loktak Protocluster”, linking the achievement to the state’s iconic Loktak Lake.

Environmental initiatives featured prominently: the Catch‑the‑Rain water‑conservation campaign, the construction of 4,000 ponds in Madhya Pradesh, and a plastic‑to‑bench recycling model from Sitamarhi, Bihar, turning waste into public seating.

The Prime Minister also urged support for handloom, khadi and other “Vocal for Local” campaigns, emphasizing self‑reliance and youth innovation.
