India's Q1 FY27 fiscal deficit hits 18.2% of target, widening to ₹3.1 L crore
India's central government reported a fiscal deficit of 18.2% of its full‑year target in the April‑June quarter of FY27, amounting to roughly ₹3.1 lakh crore. The deficit rose from 17.9% in the same quarter a year earlier and exceeds the previous quarter’s ₹2.8 lakh crore.
Net tax receipts increased to about ₹6.4 lakh crore, while total government spending reached ₹13.6 lakh crore, driven by a jump in capital expenditure to ₹3.4 lakh crore. The government’s FY27 deficit target remains at 4.3% of GDP, or ₹16.96 lakh crore, as part of its fiscal consolidation roadmap.
