India's Railway Police seize narcotics and arrest officer over opium smuggling
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway recovered more than 15 kg of cannabis worth about Rs 7.6 lakh, seized 185 bottles of liquor valued at over Rs 20,000, and retrieved seven stolen mobile phones during operations across its jurisdiction on July 7‑8. The RPF also rescued seven minor children – six boys and one girl – from railway stations and handed them over to Child Welfare Committees for care.
Separately, a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer in the Mandsaur district was arrested after a smuggler alleged the officer supplied 1.5 kg of opium to him. Police had seized 4.5 kg of opium from the smuggler, valued at roughly Rs 22‑23 lakh on the international market. The GRP officer was produced before a local court and remanded in police custody pending further investigation.
