India's Ram Temple donation scandal ignites political accusations

India’s Ram Temple donation controversy has drawn sharp political criticism. Uttar Pradesh transport minister Daya Shankar Singh warned against blaming revered figures while Congress MP Tanuj Puniya accused the state government of shielding key suspects and called for a broader investigation.

Central minister V. Somanna said those who misused the donations would be punished by Lord Ram, and Karnataka minister Priyank Khadge demanded explanations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Khadge alleged that up to ₹500 crore was misappropriated and urged complete transparency.

The Uttar Pradesh government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has filed FIRs against eight individuals, including trust officials Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, who have since resigned. Opposition parties continue to press for an independent probe and accountability for those handling the temple’s public donations.
