India's RBI Holds Repo Rate Steady Amid Inflation and Growth Concerns

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) left its policy repo rate unchanged at 5.25% in its June 2026 monetary‑policy meeting, signalling a desire for stable financing conditions despite persistent inflation pressures. The decision aims to balance price stability with the need to support economic growth.

In its policy statement the RBI raised its inflation outlook and lowered its growth projection, citing global uncertainties, higher energy prices, a weakening rupee and trade‑balance strains. Analysts noted that structural issues – such as long‑term currency depreciation, fiscal consolidation challenges and investment bottlenecks – remain beneath the headline figures and could shape future policy moves.

The unchanged rate is expected to keep short‑term credit costs predictable for businesses and investors, while the higher inflation expectations raise concerns about persistent price pressures and the potential for a more durable inflation cycle.
