India's rice industry targets growth through value-added products

The Indian Rice Exporters’ Federation (IREF) has identified value-added rice products as a significant growth driver for India’s rice industry. Rather than focusing solely on increasing grain export volumes, the industry aims to maximize the economic value derived from every tonne of rice through specialized processing.

Key areas of opportunity include convenience foods, rice noodles, rice bran oil, rice protein, and husk-derived industrial materials. Market projections indicate substantial potential: the global rice-noodle market is expected to reach $11 billion by 2030, while the rice-bran-oil market is forecasted to grow to $6.3 billion by the same year. Additionally, the global rice-protein market is projected to see approximately 67 percent growth by 2030.

The Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2026, scheduled for October 23–25 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, will host a dedicated session to examine these opportunities. The session will feature an IREF–EY assessment to identify the most promising value-added products for the industry.
