India's Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya undergo fitness tests before Afghanistan ODI series

India’s senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are undergoing fitness assessments at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru ahead of the three‑match ODI series against Afghanistan, which begins on June 13 in Dharamshala. Sharma is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the IPL 2026 season, while Pandya is returning from a back spasm that also limited his IPL appearances. Both players have been named in the Indian squad but will only be cleared to play after passing the required medical and performance tests.

BCCI batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said there is no official confirmation yet but expressed optimism that the two are fine. The series is seen as a crucial preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup. India also announced that Virat Kohli is ruled out of the series, with Yashasvi Jaiswal named as his replacement.
