Indian Sensex surpasses 78,000 as markets rally for fourth straight day
India’s benchmark indices posted a fourth consecutive session of gains on July 6‑7, 2026. The BSE Sensex rose about 521 points to close near 78,285, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced roughly 159 points to end around 24,430 – the highest close in more than two months. The rally was fuelled by softer crude‑oil prices (Brent around $72 per barrel, WTI near $69), an improving monsoon outlook and fresh inflows from foreign institutional investors, who bought about ₹1,355 crore of equity, alongside domestic institutional investors net buying roughly ₹3,792 crore. Sectoral strength came from realty, auto, oil‑and‑gas and banks, with HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics and Reliance Industries among the top gainers. The GIFT Nifty futures hovered at 24,480, supporting a bullish tone. Analysts cited key support at 24,350 for the Nifty and 78,000 for the Sensex, with upside targets of 24,500‑24,600 and 78,500‑78,800 respectively. In related market data, the combined market capitalisation of BSE‑listed companies hit a record ₹482.31 lakh crore, up 17% since April, underscoring the breadth of the rally.
