India accelerates solar energy transition and infrastructure development

India is undergoing a significant energy transformation as it works toward a target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030. The country has already surpassed 300 GW of installed non-fossil fuel capacity, representing approximately 60% of its 2030 goal.

In Uttar Pradesh, Hindustan Power is developing a 435 MWp/300 MW solar project in the Lalitpur district. The project has achieved financial closure following a ₹1,135 crore debt sanction from the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). The project operates under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).

As the solar ecosystem expands, industry experts emphasize a shift in focus toward long-term reliability, manufacturing quality, and the development of a circular economy. Companies like Regain Energies Solutions Pvt. Ltd. are addressing the emerging need for solar PV recycling to recover valuable materials such as silver, silicon, copper, and glass from end-of-life modules. Additionally, technological advancements like bifacial photovoltaic modules are being utilized to increase efficiency by absorbing light on both sides of the panel.
