Soman Rana Wins Historic Gold for India in Men's F57 Shot Put at Commonwealth Games 2026

Indian para‑athlete Soman Rana captured gold in the men’s F57 shot put at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 1 August 2026, throwing 13.40 m. Fellow Indian Shubham Juyal earned silver with a 13.28 m effort, giving India its first ever gold and a double‑podium finish in the event. Rana, a former soldier of the 28 Gorkha Rifles who lost part of his right leg in a 2006 land‑mine blast, credited his family, the Indian Army, coach Rakesh Prasad and SAI Bangalore for the achievement. The victory marked India’s third para‑athletics gold at the Games and highlighted the country’s growing strength in the sport, alongside other Indian medals in triple jump and other events.
