India's Space Industry Expands with InspeCity Leadership Appointment

InspeCity Space Laboratories, an Indian space‑technology firm, announced the appointment of Rajeev Gambhir as Executive Vice President. Gambhir, who brings four decades of experience in strategic partnerships and policy across the space, satellite and telecommunications sectors, will lead institutional engagement, strategic partnership development and international collaborations. The company plans to double its engineering and scientific staff from about 70 to 150 by the end of the financial year, building a vertically integrated stack for rendezvous and proximity operations, green satellite propulsion and robotic systems aimed at extending satellite life and reducing orbital debris.

The move comes as India’s commercial space sector shifts from basic access to space toward in‑orbit services and strategic capabilities. The sector, valued at over US$600 billion and projected to reach US$1.8 trillion by 2035, is attracting global partners seeking cost‑effective, application‑focused space solutions. Recent Indian achievements such as Chandrayaan‑3’s lunar landing and the upcoming Gaganyaan crewed mission underscore the country’s growing credibility, while liberalisation in 2020 has opened the market to private firms like InspeCity.
