India's SPARSH and Fortis Hospitals Mark Firsts in Emergency Care Certification and Robotic Surgery
SPARSH Hospital, Hennur Road in Bengaluru, became the first hospital in India and worldwide to receive the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) Gold Level Certification for emergency care. The award, presented at the International Conference on Emergency Medicine in Hamburg, recognized a 99.6% audit score across emergency response, triage, patient safety and governance. Founder Dr. Sharan Shivaraj Patil said the certification reflects the hospital’s commitment to globally benchmarked standards and patient safety.
Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, also in Bengaluru, achieved the fastest Indian milestone of 3,000 Da Vinci Xi robotic surgeries. The hospital’s robotics programme, launched in 2018, now spans twelve specialties and includes the TREAT (Total Robot Enabled and Assisted Transplant) programme for kidney transplants. Notable cases include a 77‑year‑old prostate‑cancer patient who underwent a robot‑assisted radical prostatectomy and a 39‑year‑old woman who received a robot‑assisted hysterectomy, underscoring the centre’s surgical innovation.
