India's Sri Lanka Test series threatens coach Gautam Gambhir's job

India will play a two‑match Test series against Sri Lanka in August 2026, with the first Test at Galle International Stadium (15 Aug) and the second at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo (23 Aug). Former India opener Wasim Jaffer predicts a 2‑0 victory, saying, “If India don’t win the series 2‑0, it would be a disappointing outcome.”

Jaffer also warned that the outcomes of this series, along with upcoming Tests versus New Zealand and Australia, will determine the future of head coach Gautam Gambhir. He noted India’s current sixth‑place standing in the World Test Championship and added, “We need to win almost 90 % of our remaining matches to qualify for the World Test Championship final.” The series is thus a crucial test for both players and the coaching staff.
