Twisha Sharma death case: Supreme Court orders CBI probe and cautions media

Twisha Sharma, a 33‑year‑old former model‑actress, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on 12 May 2026. Her family alleges dowry harassment and abetment to suicide by her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, who deny the charges. The Supreme Court, hearing a suo motu petition, convened a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and ordered a fair, independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Court urged both families to give statements only to the investigating agency and asked media outlets to refrain from publishing witness statements that could prejudice the probe. Following the Court’s directives, the CBI took over the case, re‑registered the FIR, and booked Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act. CBI teams have visited the crime scene, inspected the house, and begun questioning the accused and family members. The investigation remains ongoing, with further hearings scheduled in the Supreme Court and the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
