India's top 10 firms add Rs 2.51 lakh crore to market capitalisation
During the trading week of 27‑31 July, nine of India’s ten most valuable listed companies collectively increased their market capitalisation by Rs 2.51 lakh crore. The rally lifted the Sensex 2.67% to 2,034.87 points and the Nifty 2.59% to 616.15.
Bajaj Finance recorded the largest gain, adding Rs 80,345.97 crore to reach Rs 7,10,817.51 crore after reporting a 28% year‑on‑year rise in quarterly profit and a sharp rise in assets under management. Other gainers included Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro and Life Insurance Corp. Hindustan Unilever was the sole decliner, with its market cap falling by Rs 10,326.46 crore.
Analysts attributed the broad‑based surge to softer crude‑oil prices, improving geopolitical sentiment, strong earnings from the June quarter and renewed buying by foreign institutional investors.
