India's Tourism Ministry Approves ₹5,756 cr for 117 Projects, ₹2,999 cr for 60 Northeast Sites

The Union Ministry of Tourism, led by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced financial assistance of ₹5,756.62 crore for 117 tourism infrastructure projects across India over the past two fiscal years. Funding is provided under schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Challenge‑Based Destination Development, PRASHAD, and others to strengthen tourism facilities, improve visitor amenities and promote destinations.

A separate allocation of ₹2,998.87 crore was earmarked for 60 projects in the Northeastern states, covering national parks, pilgrimage sites and other circuits under flagship schemes including Swadesh Darshan, Challenge‑Based Destination Development and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation. The minister highlighted the expected economic boost for local artisans, entrepreneurs and related businesses, and noted rising tourist footfall at sites like Kaziranga National Park.

The ministry also cited digital promotion via the Incredible India platform, expanded e‑Visa categories and multilingual tourist helplines as part of its broader effort to attract domestic and foreign visitors.
