India's UPI digital payment system goes live in Greece
India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been launched in Greece, allowing customers to transfer money instantly, securely and at a fraction of traditional cross‑border fees. The service was demonstrated at Eurobank's headquarters in Athens under a partnership between Eurobank and NIPL (NPCI International Payments Limited). Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the rollout marks another milestone in the global expansion of India's digital‑payment ecosystem and highlighted opportunities for deeper economic cooperation between the two countries.
Goyal noted that UPI is already live in more than eight nations, including the UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, Mauritius and Qatar, and that recent MoUs with 23 countries aim to broaden the India‑Stack platform worldwide.
