India's UPI Expands to Nepal and Singapore, Enabling Real-Time Cross-Border Payments

India and Nepal have launched a direct UPI‑NPI link, allowing citizens of both countries to transfer funds instantly via mobile banking apps and digital wallets. The peer‑to‑peer corridor, live since 6 June 2026, eliminates the need for traditional correspondent banking and reduces settlement times to real‑time, benefiting Indian tourists in Nepal and Nepali merchants accepting Indian payments.

In Singapore, payment processor Red Dot Payment has begun offering UPI acceptance to merchants across travel, hospitality, retail, education and e‑commerce sectors. By integrating UPI, Singaporean businesses can provide faster, mobile‑first checkout, lower payment friction and more cost‑effective cross‑border settlements for customers familiar with the Indian system. UPI is already available in nine countries, including Singapore, and the new capabilities aim to broaden its international footprint.
