India's UPI hits record 23.6 billion transactions in July
In July, India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed 23.66 billion transactions, moving roughly Rs 29.9 trillion—about Rs 1.11 crore each second. The daily average was 763 million transactions with a daily value of ₹96,383 crore, marking a 4.1% rise in volume and a 3.3% rise in value from June. Year‑on‑year, transaction volume grew 22% and value rose 19%.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), overseen by the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks’ Association, reported that UPI is now operational in ten countries, including Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Cambodia and the Maldives, with Greece linked for person‑to‑person transfers. The Maldives recently launched a real‑time payment corridor with India, further extending UPI’s global reach.
