India's UPI to be accepted at 4.5 million Cambodian merchants

India’s National Payments Corporation (NPCI) International Payments Limited has signed an agreement with Cambodia’s ACLEDA Bank to integrate the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with Cambodia’s national QR‑code system, KHQR. The partnership allows Indian travelers to make instant QR‑code payments using their existing UPI apps at more than 4.5 million merchants across Cambodia, covering restaurants, hotels, retail stores and transport services.

The initiative is part of a phased rollout that aims to boost tourism, trade and cross‑border digital commerce between the two nations. In a later phase, Cambodian users will be able to pay Indian merchants with local payment apps via UPI QR codes. The project aligns with the G20 roadmap for cheaper, faster and more transparent cross‑border payments.
