India's Vice President marks Hyderabad Liberation Day

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the 79th Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Ground in Secunderabad, marking the anniversary of the integration of the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union.

Reflecting on the events of September 17, 1948, Radhakrishnan described the conclusion of the Hyderabad integration via Operation Polo as a decisive chapter in India’s history. He noted that the struggle involved significant sacrifice from students, intellectuals, farmers, and ordinary citizens who endured violence and imprisonment.

The Vice President highlighted the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in unifying hundreds of princely states into a single union following Partition. He also drew a parallel between historical leaders and current governance, stating that while Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose were pivotal to India’s freedom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is playing a key role in the goal of a developed India by 2047.
