India's Women Athletes and MMA Fighters Gain Global Recognition

Indian women are increasingly prominent on the world sporting stage. In badminton, athletes such as Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu have secured Olympic medals and world titles, shifting domestic perceptions and inspiring a new generation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expanded support for the women's national cricket team, launching the Women’s Premier League and enabling players to compete at historic venues like Lord’s in London.

In mixed martial arts, Indian fighters are also breaking through internationally. Lightweight Owais Yaqoob of Jammu and Kashmir has recorded five consecutive victories in the BRAVE Combat Federation, including first‑round stoppages of Ian Paul Lora and Mehmet Can Tasdoven, and has trained with Team Khabib and the American Kickboxing Academy. His performances earned him a nomination for the 2025 Breakout Fighter of the Year, highlighting the growing stature of Indian MMA on the global stage.
